



The Canyon Keepers and guests were treated to an awesome
presentation by Gene Lorance from the Department of Parks describing the
history and animal fossils that have been found in the past century in the
cave. Preliminary to the slide show was an introduction by Laird Thompson,
local geology expert, showing the evolution of
Though many a person asks when it will be open, there is no official word on when or even if it will ever be open to the public. However, you can get a glimpse of the entrance by using the Quarry Trail near the old defunct lime quarry (Map location near the “PG#E Road Trail”) which is a now gated entrance to the cave.

Lorance, a state Department of Parks environmental resource specialist, has
been overseeing a project for the past 1½ years that is shedding renewed light
on a cave that yielded a treasure trove of prehistoric animal bones from 1906
to 1910 but has been out of the public eye since then.
